“Before Light” is a concept opening title for the Zigong Lantern Festival. Inspired by the traditional Zou Ma Deng (Carousel Lantern), it turns the rotating lantern into a symbolic stage. At its center, a dancer, the living wick, awakens six panels that portray moments of the Chinese New Year. As the camera pulls back, we realize she has been inside a lantern all along, reminding us that we are not just users of light but part of its culture.
